Advantage Montreal

P.J. Impex enjoys the strategic advantage of being based in Montreal, Canada - the gateway to the North American heartland.

The Port
Montreal is a key transfer point between central Canada, the U.S. midwest and the northeast. Located 1,600 kilometres inland (1,000 miles), it's also on the most direct route between these markets and those of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. With four modern terminals, Montreal is one of the leading container ports on the east coast of North America. In 1999 alone, the port handled 9.2 million tonnes of container cargo, 1.2 million metric tonnes in foodstuffs. The port also features 30 berths for non-containerized cargo, 20 transit sheds and a temperature-controlled warehouse.

The Players
Montreal is also known as a key food-trading centre, home to many of the industry's major brokers and traders.

As with the port, geographic location is a main reason why the city has such a high profile in the food business. It lies within proximity of a network of quality producers, and is at the hub of an advanced inter-modal (ship, truck, train) system that provides quick and efficient transportation to North American and world markets.

The Payoff
Taken together, each of these points creates an environment we like to call the Montreal Advantage. It's an advantage P.J. Impex passes on to its customers no matter where they're located.
